At long last, Fall Out Boy seem to be teasing the follow-up to 2018’s M A N I A album!

We’ve not had much to go on for the past few years in terms of if a new record was on the way or not, but finally it seems as though something is happening.

A spread in the band’s home city’s Chicago Tribune paper (and digital edition) mysteriously appeared teasing FOB8 – the band’s eighth album, duh – and the words, ‘If you build it, they will come.’

It’s the first we’ve heard since guitarist Joe Trohman told Rolling Stone that some “guitar-based” stuff had been worked on since M A N I A, but was then put on the “back-burner”. “We were working on some stuff that was guitar-based,” he said. “I don’t know what’s happening with it. I think it unfortunately went to the back-burner.

“It would be nice to make a record where the guitar is a little more upfront. We did start that way, as a guitar-based rock band, and it’d be cool to go back to those roots. We’d have to find a way to do it that doesn’t sound like Fall Out Boy from 2005. It might be cool for somebody else to do that, but it wouldn’t be cool for us to do it.”

In a 2019 interview with Kerrang!, vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump pondered of FOB’s future: “I really don’t know what it’s going to take, but I do know that the next record we put out, or whatever we do next, it’s going to be something that we really care about. And it’s something that we’re going to spend a lot of time on.”

Anyway, check out the new teasers below:
