Green Day side-project The Coverups announce 2025 London show
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
Green Day have kicked off their shows with Bohemian Rhapsody before they come onstage for years now – and this is what happens behind the scenes once they hit ‘play’.
While out on the road right now on their mega Saviors Tour, Green Day have shared a six-minute video looking at exactly what’s going on backstage before the band all head out to begin the show.
For years now, they’ve gotten crowds warmed up by playing Bohemian Rhapsody into Blitzkrieg Bop directly before they come out onstage, with their Drunk Bunny mascot also famously coming out during the latter track. But what exactly happens once they hit ‘play’ on Queen’s 1975 classic, and the countdown is on?
This new backstage video captures Green Day and their touring band all hanging around (pretty calm and casual, it must be said, given they’re about to play in front of thousands and thousands of people). There’s jokes, there’s handshakes, and of course some singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody, just as the crowd are doing.
Then, in the video, the camera-person wanders around and takes a look at some of the gear behind the set and either side, including the big American Idiot album cover that inflates when Green Day start that portion of the show. Pretty, prettyyyyyyy cool!
“The moments before the show begins,” reads the caption, “aka what REALLY goes on behind the scenes while Queen’s playing and you’re all singing Bohemian Rhapsody.”
