See Billie Joe Armstrong join Dua Lipa onstage in San Francisco

Fresh from wrapping up Green Day’s mega Saviors Tour, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong isn’t putting his feet up just yet: he joined pop superstar Dua Lipa onstage in San Francisco last night (October 12).

The punk rock icon surprised fans at the Chase Center on Dua’s Radical Optimism Tour to perform at cover of Wake Me Up When September Ends – and it’s not the first time she’s gone rock, having covered Highway To Hell in Melbourne earlier this year.

Introducing Billie Joe to the stage, Dua said (transcribed by Kerrang!), “I love this band for so many different reasons. I love it because of their rawness, their authenticity, the message behind it, the space that it holds for people who sometimes feel like they might not belong. I love listening to this album [American Idiot] in particular – when I was little I’d put the CD in the Walkman.

“And tonight, we’re extremely lucky, San Francisco, because I have a little help from friend who’s here tonight and is going to join me to sing this next song. So please, San Francisco, join me in welcoming the incredible Billie Joe from Green Day!”
