The big review: Download Festival 2025 – Friday
As it happens, this is everything going down at Donington Park on the first day of Download Festival 2025.
“Every choice, every shrug, every shot fired – they all ricochet…” Ahead of this Friday’s 10th album, Rise Against have unveiled their new record’s title-track.
Rise Against have just dropped the title-track from their forthcoming record Ricochet.
The Chicago punk rock heroes will be releasing album number 10 this Friday, August 15 via Loma Vista, and are giving fans one final preview following 2025 singles Nod, I Want It All and Prizefighter.
Speaking about the meaning of Ricochet, frontman Tim McIlrath reveals, “We rely on each other, whether we like it or not. Everything that you do will affect somebody. We’re connected to other countries and other economies; we’re connected to undocumented immigrants. We’re connected to every decision that our leaders make. We are not as isolated as we think. What we do, good or bad, creates one big ricochet effect.”
Of its accompanying video, Tim adds, “When I was writing Ricochet, I couldn’t shake this image: people dancing while bombs and bullets careened overhead. That contrast – the obliviousness of joy against the backdrop of destruction – felt like the world we’re living in. The video brings that to life. It’s about more than action and reaction. It’s about how even our silence, even our detachment, carries weight. Every choice, every shrug, every shot fired – they all ricochet.”
