Among the 10,000-plus fans packed into Alexandra Palace last week for Spiritbox’s sold-out headline date in London, one gig-goer caught the band’s attention after the fact for their… unconventional way of participating.

X user Sky/Zero (@marilyn_monhoe) took to social media to share their footage of Spiritbox performing 2023 single Cellar Door at Ally Pally on February 13. Only, unlike most of us – including yours truly, who filmed some of the set on our phone – their video was recorded on a Nintendo 3DS. In short: it’s hilarious, full of blurred footage and completely all-over-the-place noises.

Clearly even singer Courtney LaPlante – who we’ve already learned in 2025 has a fantastic sense of humour, based on her viral ‘Poppy’ interview at the GRAMMYs – thought so too, jokingly replying to the fan: “We take pride in our balanced and clean tones thank you for capturing.”

In all seriousness, though, in our review of the gig, K! praised Courtney for possessing Spiritbox’s “defining X factor. Hers is a presence that is simultaneously enigmatic and emphatic,” we wrote. “There is a precision and intent underpinning her every step across the stage; rarely will you see a 10,000-strong audience controlled with such consummate, crafted ease. Her vocals are immaculate, too, behemothic on Holy Roller, Soft Spine and Circle With Me, beguiling on Eternal Blue and Sew Me Up, given its live debut.”

We concluded that, “Back in the days before Spiritbox had even touched down on these shores, Kerrang! once declared them to be ‘the hottest band in the world’. If you didn’t believe us then, you certainly should now.”

Spiritbox's album Tsunami Sea is released on March 7 via Rise. The band play Download Festival in June – get your tickets now.
