Ghost are showing no signs of slowing down following an absolutely momentous 2022 – which included releasing one of K!’s favourite albums of the year in Impera, and headlining massive venues like London’s The O2.
Now, they’re (somewhat quietly) teasing their potential next steps, with the folks over on Reddit noticing that a new Papa Emeritus IV billboard has popped up across the pond. Situated in Hollywood, this intriguing ad simply promises that ‘Jesus is coming’ – which, given that this is Ghost, could pretty much mean anything.
Of course, it’s no secret that mainman Tobias Forge has previously been considering Ghost’s next musical steps following Impera, telling Rolling Stone in November that he was thinking about the “vibe” of a new album, and how he didn’t want to do the same thing twice.
“There are a lot of things in my head that I feel like I wanna explore writing,” he said. “I think I’ve never really ended an album production, or left an album production, without feeling like there are things that I would wanna do different next time.”
Tobias continued: “I’m trying to build a new vibe for writing this record now, just to sort of see to it that I don’t end up repeating myself, and do something else. Evoke a few good things from the past and try to eradicate some of the things I didn’t like. And once more, you try to do it perfectly. It’s like being that sort of person that gets married for the sixth time: ‘This time is gonna be great. It’s gonna be perfect this time.’”
