With another busy year of touring ahead as they finally bring the Hella Mega Tour to the UK and Europe with Fall Out Boy and Weezer, Green Day kicked off their 2022 with an unbelievable set at the Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest on Saturday night (February 12).
Co-headlining with Miley Cyrus, the Oakland punks pulled out all the stops at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena, tearing through a whopping 28 songs spanning their three-decade career.
As always Billie Joe Armstrong and co. warmed up the crowd by coming onstage to The Ramones' classic Blitzkrieg Bop, before opening with the triple hit of American Idiot, Holiday and Know Your Enemy. There were several covers on the night – I Fought The Law, a live debut of I Think We're Alone Now, Rock And Roll And Nite and their customary performance of Knowledge – as well as all the usual mega-hits like When I Come Around, Basket Case, 21 Guns and Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life).
Elsewhere, the band brought out some older gems for the first time in many years: Disappearing Boy, Stuck With Me and At The Library were all played for the first time since 2016, 2017 and 2015 respectively, while they wrapped up the whole set with the timeless Going To Pasalacqua. Oooooft!
