Green Day side-project The Coverups announce 2025 London show
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
Whatever it may turn into (an album? EP?!), all these Green Day new music teasers are sounding awesome.
Having taken a little break on the new-music-teasing this month (to play their mind-blowingly great first show of 2022), Green Day are back on the hype train now and pointing towards whatever 1972 seems to be.
Their latest snippet once again features that all-important date, plus other flashes of footage: the logo of Billie Joe Armstrong's defunct Adeline Records, graffiti, a studio and the band driving around in a convertible car. The whole thing is soundtracked by new music, which is both energetic and extremely infectious.
Check it out below:
Speaking to Kerrang! following the release of their most recent album Father Of All…, Billie Joe revealed that Green Day were all about having fun when it comes to making music these days. "There’s always this thing of people wanting to move forwards, but I think sometimes it’s important to kind of move sideways," he said. "Father Of All… was just a different thing that we’ve done, and we were able to challenge ourselves, and dig into our musical roots, and put something out there that is taking things to a different place. It was just such a different record for us, and I think it stuck with people. That’s what success is to me these days."
He also explained in a different K! interview that, “A lot of it has to do with pushing yourself past the fear of feeling ordinary. You just have to go there, no matter what. It’s so important. You can either do something that you’ve never done before and see where you end up, or you just end up [thinking], ‘Well, maybe I’ll just stay in my comfort zone’ and write something that’s the next Good Riddance… or something like that. That sounds so boring. I know that it would just depress me in the long run, if I was just repeating myself.”
