Green Day have shared their love for Billie Eilish, following the band’s onstage collab with the pop megastar at FireAid LA on January 30.

In a new interview with Billboard from this weekend’s GRAMMYs – where Green Day were nominated for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album, but sadly didn’t win – they said that performing with Billie last month was “an honour”.

Speaking about how he came to be a fan of his namesake in the first place, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained, “It’s funny, when she first started coming out, I saw some footage of her on Instagram – I saw some merch, and there was a headband that said ‘Billie’ with an ‘ie’, and I said, ‘I have to have that!’ And then so she sent me a bunch of merch that had ‘Billie’ on it, and I was like, ‘Yes!’”

He continued, “I saw her play a couple of times and she was fantastic, and you just knew something special was gonna happen with her. But the fact that we got to play together… she’s a pretty awesome young lady, and it was an honour to be able to share the stage with her.”

Billie x Billie played beloved 21st Century Breakdown ballad Last Night On Earth together, before Green Day wrapped up their short set at the Kia Forum with Still Breathing and When I Come Around.
