Nebraska five-piece indie-rock outfit Salt Creek have returned with new music for the first time since 2017: Their eclectic range of introspective jams and ambient emo-tinged tunes have taken the form of a forthcoming EP, If You Were There, out July 19.
Today, they showcase their new direction with an immersive, cathartic new video for the single titled What You Would Hear. The track emanates tragedy with haunting instrumentals, dispirited vocals, and lyrics like, “A phaser, self-annihilator / You crave whatever’s in your rear view.” Following the life of an apathetic narcissist, What You Would Hear is full of raw, palpable pain and predicts a bigger turn in Salt Creek’s sound. The vocals and instrumentals are richer and more mesmerizing than ever, proving that a strong evolution is in the works. The video showcases the vulnerability and passion of the song while the band let the music engulf them.
“This song is for people who talk to themselves," says vocalist Chase Thompson. "I feel like I'm talking to a past version of myself in this song, after traveling all the time for a few years, you just change the way you look at things. It's a different perspective."
