Corey Taylor showed his musical versatility at this weekend’s horror and pop culture convention SPOOKALA.
The Slipknot frontman – and big lover of all things horror – performed a 14-song set at the Tampa event on Saturday afternoon (April 5), including some customary renditions and a pop mega-effort.
Corey opened things up with a Violent Femmes cover, before playing Stone Sour tracks, a couple of solo songs, plus Foo Fighters, Incubus and Nine Inch Nails singles and his classic cover of the SpongeBob SquarePants theme tune.
Then, to wrap things up he surprised everyone with a cover of Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club, before ending things on Slipknot’s Spit It Out, which is a hell of a one-two.
And it seems as though we have Corey’s wife Alicia to thank for the Chappell effort, as she posted a text exchange she had with her husband on March 25 asking: “Can you please play pink pony club to me acoustic.”
He replied, “As you wish.” “I’ll learn it.” “You’ll have to give me a couple days” and then, “Would that make you happy…?” before saying, “Then I’ll do it.” “For you.” Soon after, he messaged, “Okay I know the chords.”
Excellent work, Alicia!
