Green Day side-project The Coverups announce 2025 London show
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong ponders a "production where the men and women switched roles".
Over the weekend, members of Green Day visited Chapman University's Memorial Hall to watch a production of the GRAMMY-winning American Idiot musical – and it inspired frontman Billie Joe Armstrong to want to potentially change things up in future.
Having watched Cade Becker perform in the production (if that surname sounds familiar, it's because he's the brother of Max and Cole Becker, of brilliant Berkeley punks SWMRS), Billie Joe posted afterwards on his Instagram that he was "so stoked" for Cade, and that as a "side note" he'd been wondering "what it would be like if someone did a production where the men and women switched roles. Johnny be played by a woman? Whatsername be Whatshisface? I like it."
The musician also approved of another fan suggestion: "Or how about same sex roles? Johnny/Whatshisfafe; (Fem) Johnny/Whatsername," replying, "I like that too."
A 10th anniversary UK tour is currently doing the rounds across the country, finishing up in Liverpool this July (though further dates and venues are to be announced). Find out where you can catch the American Idiot musical right here.
In more Green Day-related news, the band have just announced details of their first-ever book, Last Of The American Girls.
