The Kerrang! staff’s top albums of 2024
You’ve seen the Kerrang! albums of 2024. Now check out what the staff were all listening to this year…
It’s here! Following a few months of teasing, Poppy has unveiled her new single Church Outfit – and it was worth the wait…
Poppy is back with an absolutely excellent new single, Church Outfit.
Following last year’s Stagger EP, the musician wiped her socials and began teasing the song all the way back in December, along with what we now know to be its opening lyrics: ‘This is the dress I want to be buried in.’
Now, Church Outfit is officially here, along with a video that Poppy previously confirmed incorporates her dance background. “This new chapter of Poppy in this new album, and the visual media, it started because I wanted to have videos that incorporated my dance background,” she teased last month. “So, we worked almost backwards in a way, and there are certain aesthetic elements that I wanted to include and we made the music around that idea.”
Speaking about Church Outfit and what she’s been up to, Poppy shares: “It’s an artist’s responsibility to always change. I don’t think I’d want to be in my body if I was repeating the same thing over and over again. I’m only competing with myself. I will continue to write the story until I get tired of the book. Then, I’ll write another one.”
Read the lyrics to Church Outfit below:
This is the dress I want to be buried in
Leave the rings, I might need them
I'm holy water, take a sip
This is my church outfit
Life is a commercial for death
Anger is something I worked to manifest
Life is a commercial for death
And you're hypnotized by the advertisement
I'll dress to the nines, show up on time
You come on whenever you like
Dress to the nines, show up on time
You come on whenever you like
This is the dress I want to be buried in
Leave the rings, I might need them
I'm holy water, take a sip
This is my church outfit
It's my confession, my testament
Don't need your weapons, I got my own
And you said I couldn't command
This is my church outfit
It's my confession, and my testament
Don't need your weapons, I got my own
And you said I couldn't command
This is my church outfit
