Watch the video for Static Dress’ new single crying, with Olli Appleyard excitedly detailing how the band are pushing “the boundaries of our own storytelling and visual presentation”.
It’s been an absolutely mega time for Static Dress – from teaming up with actual Game Boy to going on tour with Bring Me The Horizon. And the good news keeps on coming in 2024, as they’ve just shared brand-new music!
The band’s first proper new tune since 2022 goes by the name crying, and follows their Rouge Carpet Disaster (Redux) album from last year (hence first “proper” new tune).
It also comes with a typically compelling music video, which frontman and band mastermind Olli Appleyard reveals “explores several themes of the song’s lyrical character, revolving around taboo topics presented as a battle between the sacred and the profane. Rather than focusing solely on striking presentation and the visual stimulation of colour and design, we ask the viewer to travel through multiple scenes, all with their own subject matter; guilt and battling with self-loathing, mass corporate manipulation, capitalist horde mentality and weaponised lust.
“We hope to provoke further questions and conversation with this piece,” Olli adds, “aiming to push the boundaries of our own storytelling and visual presentation in a way that exhibits the growth we’ve experienced in recent years.”
