Jay Weinberg has unveiled a series of close-up photos of a
beautiful new mask, specially designed for the band’s performances at Knotfest
Japan this past weekend.
The drummer teamed up with Japanese painter SOLID BLACKLINE to
create a new look for Slipknot’s two headline sets on April 1 and 2, explaining
that he wanted to share the band’s love for the country as well as supporting
local talent.
“The organic, flowing shapes of his high-contrast designs evoke
feelings of mysticism and beauty, balanced within the duality of chaos and
order one feels as a visitor in this wondrous country,” Jay wrote of his mask.
“There’s truly no better way to further immerse ourselves within
everything that Knotfest Japan stands for – to share our love for Japan,
and its rich artistic culture – than to welcome local talent through
collaboration with our own expression through this weekend’s performances.”
SOLID BLACKLINE later posted that, “It
was truly a moving experience to see the world’s most influential artists
wearing the mask, which is also their alter ego, and playing onstage in
Makuhari with all their hearts. Thank you!”
