Trap-metal pioneer Scarlxrd praises Bring Me The Horizon for their inspirational journey
Yesterday it was announced that Bring Me The Horizon are returning to North America in the spring for the Second Base tour, and they're bringing the genre-mashing entity Scarlxrd with them.
As you might expect from a man with close to 200 million views on his YouTube channel, Scarlxrd's rabid fanbase are beyond stoked at the chance of seeing his intense live shows in bigger venues alongside one of the hottest bands on the planet right now (seriously, just have a scroll through Instagram).
Kerrang! caught up with Scarlxrd to talk about Bring Me The Horizon and how it feels to be supporting a band he looks up to.
“Bring Me The Horizon is one of those bands that I’ve been listening to since I started. I found out about them when I was in a band, that’s when I found out about BMTH, Suicide Silence, Of Mice & Men, Architects, that whole scene of bands. It’s really sick. Since then I’ve been a huge fan of their journey, I feel their journey’s inspiring, and they’re doing great things.
"No-one’s gonna say it now, but in another three/four years, they’re gonna be the band on everyone’s tongue, man. No-one wants to say it now, everyone wants to talk shit, but when people talk shit it’s a positive thing, it means you’re doing something right (laughs). I can guarantee that they’re gonna be up there because they’re not afraid to change, they’re not afraid to develop, they’re not afraid to explore, and they’ve been a band for so fucking long. Their legacy is just gonna go, and that inspires me."
But it's not just Bring Me The Horizon's music that inspires Scarlxrd, it's who they are as people, and he cannot wait to meet them properly.
"I’m gonna pick their brains, I’m gonna see how they look at things, they’re inspiring so I’m gonna see what they’re like. I know we’re gonna have a good time on tour, too. I know they’re fans of my shit and they said they wanted me on tour for ages and whatnot... it’s a blessing and I’m humbled.
"It’s gonna be an amazing time, I’m gonna bring the noise and do some killer shows. It’s gonna be fire."
