Olivia Rodrigo kicked off her Sour tour at Portland's Theater Of The Clouds last night (April 5), treating fans to material from her massive breakthrough debut album as well as a couple of interesting covers.
Most notably, the pop star performed Avril Lavigne's classic single Complicated, introducing the cover by telling the crowd, "This next song is a song I really love by the pop-punk princess herself." (Via @avrillavigne_tw) Later in the set, Olivia also covered Veruca Salt's Seether.
It's no secret that Avril is a huge fan of Olivia's, too, praising her last year for sending "rock'n'roll in the charts" once more thanks to Sour (and especially mega-hit Good 4 U, which ended up giving songwriting credits to members of Paramore).
"This year we were introduced to a new artist whose debut album marked a major return for rock'n'roll in the charts," Avril said of Olivia at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch last December (via Official Charts). "From Driver’s License to Good 4 You to Deja Vu, Olivia’s singles from her album Sour are part of the collective psyche of 2021, and she wrote every single one of them."
