Nickelback Would Love To Do An Album of Slayer Covers

Bassist Mike Kroeger revealed his metalhead roots and desire to take the band in a heavier direction.

Nickelback Would Love To Do An Album of Slayer Covers

We may be losing Slayer this year (as the band retires with their farewell tour), but the spirit of the band will live on...with Nickelback?

In an interview with Australia's Wall of Sound, co-founding member Mike Kroeger revealed his devotion to heavy metal, and his interest in recording a much heavier album with Nickelback. The bassist went on to reveal that a Slayer cover album isn't out of the question, either:

“Metal is what makes me go, it’s what I listen to without fail. If we could actually sink in and do a metal album, all four of us would love it. I know that we’re all – on differing scales – metalheads at our core. We all know everything about the Big Four – Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That’s where my heart lies. There are just never enough hours in the day to do everything, but let’s just say I wouldn’t count it out.”

Mike even talked about his love of bands like Meshuggah, Gojira, and Lamb of God -- all of which he has befriended over the years.

None of which should be a total surprise. After all, the band has already famously covered Metallica's Sad But True:

We look forward to seeing how Nickelback choose to follow up this interview, and officially challenge them record that album of Slayer covers. We'd certainly be curious enough to buy it.

In the meantime, we figure we'll just pore over every frame of their video for How You Remind Me with far, far, too much detail.
