NAUT’s Gavin Laubscher: The 10 songs that changed my life
NAUT singer Gavin Laubscher tells all about starting on goth’s dark path, trying to sing like Jim Morrison, and why he hates The Police…
Ray Noir’s dark, energised take on the track also features Sisters Of Mercy’s Ben Christo…
London-based alt.goth artist Ray Noir, last seen with Bambie Thug at London’s Black Heart raising money for London Trans Pride, has released a souped-up cover of Tears For Fears’ classic Shout!. Building on the 1985 original’s bleak electronics and tale of living in a world of worry, he’s added his own style of industrial heaviness to the track, as well as roping in Sisters Of Mercy guitarist Ben Christo for extra vocals.
“It's a political song spurred on by [my] anger with the world crumbling upon us today, especially with all the injustice for the trans+ people and the Black Lives Matter movement, and the whole feeling of our generation and its history,” explains Ray. “I wanted to do a cover to put a spotlight on the situation. Take your battles to the fields and demand justice for all!’
