Lorna Shore unleash “triumphant” new single, Unbreakable
Following lead single Oblivion and a typically brilliant performance at Download Festival, Lorna Shore have just dropped another new track…
Will Ramos and Adam De Micco give the lowdown on Lorna Shore’s hefty, “fun” new banger, Unbreakable, taken from upcoming album I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me.
Yesterday, Lorna Shore unleashed Unbreakable, the latest cut from their long-awaited new album, I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me. Like the already-released Oblivion, it’s very heavy. But it’s also, the band tell Kerrang!, something of an anthem. The video, meanwhile, sees the band cutting it up with a bunch of fans, underlining the song’s themes of unity and unsquashability.
Speaking exclusively to K!, singer Will Ramos and guitarist Adam De Micco give the skinny on the track, and how the deathcore heroes wrote something “fun” for a change…
What was the vibe going in to write Unbreakable?
Will: “Unbreakable was one of the first songs that we properly started working on. And it was one of the last songs that we ended up finishing. It was probably the most difficult song for us to write in our wheelhouse. We’re very used to throwing a million notes on the board instead of just the ones that count. I remember when Adam was writing it, there was very much a thought in our minds of, ‘How can we go simple, but not too simple?’ There's been many iterations to get it to where it is. It's the best version that it could possibly be. It's our all-inclusive, make everybody feel good onstage, make everybody in the crowd feel good song.”
Adam: “It’s one of my favourites. It’s an anthem. I feel like we had never written a song that's anthemic before. And so now, every time I listen to it, or we're watching clips of the video, I just think, ‘This is awesome!’ It has a really interesting, cool, fun vibe to it that we don't really do usually.”
Tell us about the lyrics…
Will: “The main lyric is: ‘We are unbreakable.’ It’s the idea that the world could always try to take us down and put us into the dirt, whatever you want to call it. But throughout all of this, throughout all the pressure, we get hardened, and we become the best version of ourselves – whether it's individually or as a group. That’s what the song tries to embellish: that feeling that we're all here together, and we're stronger together. Perseverance, perseverance, perseverance, keep malevolent…”
How was making the video?
Will: “Chaos!”
Adam: “Yeah, chaos. It was just us and a bunch of fans, enjoying ourselves, doing the song. The idea came from growing up watching MTV, and seeing all those bands who did videos onstage, with a crowd. That really inspired us, because the song feels like that’s the kind of video it needs, and also because we couldn't figure out what else to do! It kind of felt like the only thing that made sense. It was really fun to do. We didn't know how it was gonna go, but it turned out to be really fun.”
Will: “Actually, at one point, we were like, ‘We’ve got to do live video footage of this song. But how the hell are you gonna get live footage of a song that hasn't come out yet?’ People are supposed to know the words too, and so what we did is the next best thing. It happened and we were like, ‘Okay, that's it, right there.’ It was crazy, and everyone had a really good time.”
Lorna Shore's album I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me is released on September 12 via Century Media
