Metallica performed a whopping 32 songs across two very special nights in San Francisco over the weekend, celebrating their 40th anniversary with a pair of sold-out nights at the Chase Center.
Such an occasion needed a couple of absolutely unreal setlists, and that's exactly what they delivered across two nights (December 17 and December 19).
At show one, the metal titans crammed in at least one track from each of their 10 studio albums (according to setlist.fm, for the first time ever), with the live debut of Fixxxer being the big talking point from that show.
Afterwards, drummer Lars Ulrich posted: "Insanity!!! Wow. Thank you making night one so special and beyond expectations. I knew it was gonna be loud and nutty, but I never would have guessed it would be this next level crazy. And seeing so many familiar faces was just the coolest. Hope you guys are digging the SF takeover and all the ensuing shenanigans… Cya tomorrow night for part two of the celebrations."
