Halsey is creating and writing a “dark comedy TV series” called Bloodlust
Following October’s The Great Impersonator album, Halsey is cracking on with a whole new project alongside director Ti West.
Halsey says that some “alt-leaning” musical legends inspired their character Tabby Martin in newly-released A24 horror MaXXXine.
Following last month’s beautiful and heartbreaking comeback track The End, today (July 5) Halsey makes a splash with a big-screen appearance in new A24 horror MaXXXine.
The New Jersey artist stars as Tabby Martin in the third and final instalment in Ti West’s X series with A24, appearing in the ’80s-era slasher alongside Mia Goth (reprising her role as Maxine Minx), plus the likes of Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.
And at the Los Angeles world premiere of MaXXXine recently, Halsey told The Hollywood Reporter that their club dancer character did take some inspiration from her day job in music.
“There’s a lot of Annie Lennox and a lot of Debbie Harry sometimes, those more alt-leaning girls of that era who are real tough,” Halsey revealed. “Tabby doesn’t need anyone to protect her. Well, she does but she doesn’t think she does. She’ll kick your ass, basically, if you try her.”
Halsey also teased even more potential acting roles on the way, too, having clearly caught the bug for it: “I have a couple pretty exciting projects coming, and I’m really looking forward to announcing when the time is right in the next couple months. But this is definitely going to be more than a venture of tourism for me. This is a place that I hope to really explore.
“I love storytelling in any capacity,” Halsey added. “Songwriting and creating an album is inherently storytelling, and acting is just more of an extrapolated version of that.”
MaXXXine is in cinemas today, July 5. Watch the trailer below:
