It has sadly been announced that former Spiritbox bassist Bill Crook (pictured above on the right) has passed away.

The musician – who played live with the Canadian metalcore stars for four years, as well as on their 2021 breakout debut Eternal Blue – left the band in 2022 as a “mutual” decision “with no hard feelings”, and had since been working with Underoath’s Aaron Gillespie on a project.

The news of Bill’s death was confirmed by A Textbook Tragedy’s Kai Turmann, with whom the bassist had also played music with.

“I’m so profoundly sad to say that our dear friend Bill Crook has passed away,” reads Kai’s statement. “He was a friend to so many, and a dear friend to me since we were children. Bill was, and is, loved by so many people, and I’m so incredible sorry to have to share this devastating information with you.

“There will be many words and many tears, but for now I just need to get the terrible news out. I’m so sorry. I love you all. I love you Bill.”

Spiritbox’s label Pale Chord have followed up on social media with a brief comment: “Please give the band and members time and space to process their loss. RIP Bill.”

As have their UK press team Cosa Nostra: “Deeply saddened to hear Bill Crook (ex-Spiritbox) has passed away. Thinking of the band, his friends and family, and fans. Please be considerate of all those hurting.”

Meanwhile, Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante and Mike Stringer have each shared old photos with Bill on their respective Instagram Stories.

A memorial fund has been launched for Bill, on behalf of his mother Linda Bennett. If you’re able to, you can donate here.

Kerrang! sends our love to Bill’s family, friends and everyone who knew him at this tragic time.
