ClutchMetalheads might not realize how much Gene Freeman, known to the world as producer extraordinaire Machine, has shaped their musical taste. Since the late '90s, Machine has worked with dozens of emerging bands, including Lamb Of God, Every Time I Die, and Clutch, and helped them define their sounds on the albums that would go on to make them household names. Modern metal wouldn't be what it is without Machine's help.
Now, on the latest episode of Mixing Master, our collaboration with Unstoppable Recording Machine's Nail The Mix, Machine takes a moment to speak about his role as a producer and what it's like working with breaking bands. He discusses his personal mission, how to work with band member roles rather than against him, and the commonality he sees between himself and a famed Dr. Seuss character (guess which one).
