Deftones have just revealed a very cool partnership with their local youth football – sorry, that’s soccer to them – team, the Los Jaguares.
The grassroots Sacramento club – a group of 11-to-14-year-old boys and girls – will wear custom Deftones jerseys in the new year, with a limited run also available for fans to buy online. This new program has come about via GOAL Projects (who have also worked with the likes of OutKast, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and more) and all shirts sold will help keep football free for the kids, as well as being able to provide them with coaching, snacks and more.
“When we heard about this group of kids growing up in our hometown in need of support, we jumped at the opportunity,” Deftones say. “Soccer and music are both about connection and expression, and having a strong community that nourishes this during developmental years is so important. We’re stoked to be able to give back and make a positive change in their lives, and our hope is to encourage them to continue pursuing their dreams despite any odds.”
