Album review: High On Fire – Cometh The Storm
Masters of the feral riff High On Fire return in full beast mode with their best album in years…
High On Fire, Code and Overhead, The Albatross will be joining Manchester metal jamboree Damnation Festival this autumn.
Having already unveiled a stupidly good opening throw of bands to lead its 20th birthday celebrations this November, Damnation Festival have now announced that U.S. riff legends High On Fire and black metal oddities Code will make their long-awaited return to the bash. On top of that, Irish post-rock outfit Overhead, The Albatross have been added to this year's line-up, which will take place across two full days.
"We're excited to return to Damnation after 10 years away," say High On Fire. "We had a blast playing the festival back in 2015 and we're looking forward to seeing and hearing what this year's line-up brings!"
Code add: "It has been 11 years since we played Damnation and we are very pleased to be given the chance to return and deliver our resplendent darkness. We are looking to unearth some old tracks for the occasion that we haven't played in aeons so if you want to see Code at our blackest then be sure to stop by. Thee wayside pastors."
They join a stacked (but somehow still far from complete) line-up of big returns and special sets from Perturbator, The Haunted and Pig Destroyer, as well as Wormrot, Gaerea, Mantar, Hellripper, Frail Body, Gost, Meryl Streek, Crippling Alcoholism, and the debut UK performance from Brodequin.
UK hardcore legends Stampin' Ground will be reuniting to celebrate 25 years of their caustic Carved From Empty Words album, while doom heroes Warning will be performing their Watching From A Distance album in full.
Damnation Festival takes place at Manchester Bowlers Exhibition Centre, November 8-9, 2025
