Who are Slipknot’s fans?
We head down to Slipknot’s Here Comes The Pain tour in Manchester to meet the Maggots that had their lives changed forever by nine masked men from the cornfields…
With Stone Sour on hiatus, Corey Taylor has suggested things will probably remain that way because of “certain people’s hindrances”.
Having been on ‘indefinite hiatus’ for the past three years, it doesn’t look like the situation with Stone Sour will be changing anytime soon.
In a new interview with Rock Antenne (watch it below), Corey Taylor alluded to “hinderances” within the band that would be potentially making the frontman “compromise my vision and my art” – so it’s very likely he’ll be sticking with Slipknot and his solo project for now. And in fact, it’s talking about his CMFT backing band that gets him onto the topic of Stone Sour during the interview, as he starts out by praising his current bandmates.
“My solo band is made up of just such clutch dudes,” he begins. “Obviously, I’ve got Tooch. Zach Throne is incredible. Dustin, our drummer, is amazing. And now having Eliot, the new bass player, who can play anything you throw at him. I mean, it’s ridiculous. It’s criminal how good he is.
“When you have a great problem like that, that makes the recording stuff easy, because then, when you hit them with the demos, which largely are just me playing the song and going, ‘Okay, I’m hearing stuff here.’ I give them carte blanche to kind of do what they want, but at the same time I have a clear vision.
“And that’s where the hard work comes in. Suddenly you don’t have a band that you can just kind of blend in with or delegate or dictate to. It’s all you – it’s all on you.”
Moving on to where things are at (or not at) with Stone Sour, Corey adds: “It’s not that I don’t miss some of the guys in Stone Sour – I still talk to them. But at this stage, I refuse to compromise my vision and my art because of certain people’s hindrances. And that’s all I’ll say.”
In August 2020, the frontman explained that: “I feel like Stone Sour has kinda run its course for now. We all talked as a band and decided to kinda put Stone Sour in indefinite hiatus. That’s the way it is.”
And a couple of months before that, Corey revealed: “I talked to the guys in the band about the solo thing and what I wanted to do, and they were all totally onboard with it. Everybody else has kind of got things going on, so they’re all cool. Josh [Rand, guitar] is actually working on a solo thing of his own, which is great. So, yeah, I think Stone Sour is kind of on hiatus right now, which is fine.
“If someday we wanna get back together and do some stuff, it’ll be bigger than it was. But for right now, we’re all kind of focused on kind of doing our own thing. But you never say never in this business.”
Corey’s next solo album CMF2 is due out on September 15 via Decibel Cooper / BMG. He’ll be hitting the road on the CMF2 tour at the following:
