“It’s a rocker, and it’s really, really cool…” says former Take That star Robbie Williams’ drummer.
You never saw this coming: Tony Iommi has worked with Robbie Williams on the ex-Take That pop legend's forthcoming album.
While neither man has said anything themselves, Robbie's drummer and musical director Karl Brazil spilled the beans on the Angels singer and Black Sabbath guitarist's collaboration during an interview on drummer podcast Percussion Discussion.
"[Robbie's] got an album to follow that we've been working on," he explained. "He's working with various people, but I've been fortunate enough to do some songs with him.
"He's done a track called Rocket with Tony Iommi, which is very random. It's great. It's a rocker, and it's really, really cool. Right up my street. It's kinda… I'll just let you hear it. But yeah, Tony's done his thing on it. There's some great collaborations on this record. Gaz Coombes [Supergrass] is on there.
"It's predominately a guitar record, a bit of a throwback to his old ’90s sound but mixed with a bit of modern-day pop as well. Let's face it, he can do what he wants, can't he?"
This isn't the first time Robbie's hooked up with the world of rock. As well as ditching out on Take That pre-production to go on the last with Oasis at Glastonbury in 1995 (shortly before leaving the band, a period he called "The start of my new life"), he recently plucked SOFT PLAY to open for him in Hyde Park. Then there was the time he took to Twitter to praise Marmozets after catching them at a festival.
For Tony, meanwhile, various rumours persist around a final Ozzy show, with some suggesting one last hurrah at Aston Villa's stadium in Birmingham, featuring original drummer Bill Ward. Such talk went into overdrive this week, after The Lord Of The Riff shared a picture of himself and Bill hanging out at International Birmingham Day.
