Despite praising Axl Rose for being a "lifesaver" when he replaced Brian Johnson on AC/DC's Rock Or Bust Tour, Angus Young has confirmed that the band didn't actually write or record any new music with the Guns N' Roses frontman.

Axl stepped up as a brilliant stand-in to temporarily take over from Brian who was suffering from hearing issues at the time, but Angus tells Rolling Stone today that "nothing really came out solid" when it came to the guys potentially working on studio material together.

"I know that he has a lot of things he’s involved in," the guitarist says of Axl. "I don’t even know if you would say it was music. But he had a lot of things that he was involved in."

When asked if Axl wrote any music with Angus, he simply replies: "No, no. That never happened."

Still, Angus says that Axl's position as a fan of the band and wanting to perform their lesser-played material on tour gave him a new appreciation for some of AC/DC's rare gems.

"He always reminded me of songs, and at that time, I’m going, 'Yeah, I think we played it somewhere,'" he recalls. "And the trouble was he’d usually do it on the day of the show. He’d say, 'Can we do that?' And I’d go, 'Oh, all right. I’ll try.' I was lucky. I’ve got a guitar tech that played in a cover band. And I would go, 'Tell me the first chord, and then I’ll pick it up.' It was fun. It kept us on our toes, too."
