Bring Me The Horizon celebrate one billion streams in the UK
Congratulations to Bring Me The Horizon, who’ve received a BRIT Billion Award for really racking up their streaming numbers in the UK!
See Oli Sykes, Lee Malia and producer Dan Lancaster hit the Tape Notes Podcast for a brilliantly nerdy discussion about their latest album, and particularly breaking down Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd.
Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes and Lee Malia, along with producer Dan Lancaster, guest on the latest episode of the Tape Notes Podcast.
The three sit down with host John Kennedy to open up Pro Tools and go into fantastic detail about the many, many layers of their latest album POST HUMAN: NeX GEn.
The full episode is out on Patreon but there’s a video specifically about Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd which is available for all to see, where they talk Oli’s vocals, RJ Pasin’s guitar contributions, a sneaky cat meow and much more.
At the start of the clip, speaking more broadly about NeX GEn, Oli explains that (transcribed by Kerrang!), “A surprisingly difficult part about making this record was that we had no point of reference for how to make emo sound contemporary and, like, modern. Because no-one’s done it. But I really wanted to, because I really like those slightly Avenged Sevenfold, Funeral For A Friend metallic, melodic riffs – I’ve just got a real soft spot for them.
“But obviously trying to make that feel contemporary was difficult, so we ended up layering them with tons of synths, making it feel slightly – for lack of a better word – hyperpopy,” he explains. “And also trying to make it feel massively like a pop song as well, at the same time, so you have all these quite intricate, detailed riffs going on, but if you’re someone who just likes pop music, it’s not even registering. But then if you are someone who likes metal music and all that stuff, you are hearing that riff, like, ‘Ah, it’s actually quite a techy little riff going on there.’”
