In our massive new spring edition of Kerrang! magazine – with the mighty BABYMETAL on the cover – we catch up with Trash Boat in the studio to find out what’s been going on since 2021’s Don’t You Feel Amazing? album.
And vocalist Tobi Duncan has plenty to say on the matter, revealing that the band are currently more focussed on making and releasing songs as and when they come, that will eventually become an album. As for the music they’re working on, he shares that Trash Boat are “starting their own party” rather than paying attention to what else is going on with other bands.
“I feel like early on we were writing music to fit in,” Tobi tells us. “It was the music we wanted to write, and we didn’t change what we wanted to do to fit in, but we were writing music because we wanted to tour with specific bands, and we wanted to be in a certain scene. And we loved it. But now it’s like, ‘Let’s start our own party. Let’s do our own thing.’ We’re not trying to fit in, we’re literally just gonna write whatever we feel like. We’re going to start our own vibe and our own thing.”
The singer also reveals that they’re hoping to team up with some special collaborators – though he won’t admit who. “It’s still in the DMs phase,” he teases. “I can’t wait for it to happen and for people to hear what we’re thinking of.”
Trash Boat are on tour with I Prevail from March 17, and play Slam Dunk in May.
