It has, of course, been three years since Ellipsis, the band’s seventh album, came out, although the trio did release Balance, Not Symmetry earlier this year. It’s the soundtrack to the film of the same name, which was co-written by Simon.

The band are working with producer Rich Costey for the as-yet-untitled record. Talking to NME recently, Simon confirmed that it would definitely be released in 2020. “It’s a work in progress and quite an overyielding beast at the moment, but we’ll get it into shape over the next few months. I mean, to be honest, [recent soundtrack album Balance, Not Symmetry] ended up being not particularly cinematic. To me, it was more like an album made by a bunch of different bands.
“There’s a lot of rock songs, verses and choruses on there. It’s probably the least soundtrack-y soundtrack album that has ever been made. But, it’s definitely a lot more rocking on this album. It’s definitely a lot more rocking than Ellipsis was.”
Since forming in 1995, Biffy Clyro have consistently defied convention, growing to become both one of the innovative and original British bands in the UK. All of which is to say, we really can’t wait for what’s next. Until it’s here, however, we’ll happily take more Twitter videos, just so we can feel as close to the action as possible.
