"The Wait Isn't Long" For The New You Me At Six Album

Following the release of their charity single Our House (The Mess We Made) back in February, it sounds as though You Me At Six will have plenty more new music to give fans this year.

While Our House… was a standalone effort to help benefit Australian bushfire relief, the Surrey rock gang have also been working on a full record – the follow-up to 2018 sixth album VI – which frontman Josh Franceschi previously told Kerrang! should be out in 2020.

Backing up those plans, guitarist Max Helyer took to Twitter earlier today (July 15) to announce that he was listening to the masters of the upcoming LP, teasing, “The wait isn't long…”

“Just a tweet to let you know that I’ve just listened to the masters of our new record this morning, I cannot wait for you to hear this body of work we worked so hard on,” he said.

Despite the cryptic messaging from Max, Josh stated back in February that You Me At Six's new music shares a lot in common with their third album, 2011’s Sinners Never Sleep.

“This record is probably the heaviest we’ve been since Sinners – the stuff that’s been put together is the rockiest record we’ve had in a long, long time,” he said. “So Our House… actually couldn’t be further away from it. That, again, is why it’s a standalone single and why we’re using it in the way we are, because it just wouldn’t work with all the other stuff. When [the record’s] right, it will come out, basically. We’re still working towards that. But everything feels good in the camp!”

When asked about the timeframe and if this music will be coming before the end of the year, Josh replied: “One hundred per cent. We probably would have had music out in the spring anyway in terms of songs, without Our House. There is stuff that feels ready and there is stuff that feels right. I don’t know if we’ve finished the record yet. I don’t feel like we have.

“There’s still that elusive thing that people in bands are in pursuit of, which is their masterpiece,” he continued. “You sometimes don’t know if you’ve made it or not until years down the line someone goes, ‘Yeah, that was great.’ Or not just one person but a whole massive society goes, ‘That was fucking amazing,’ and it’s lauded over for years and years. But I don’t feel like we’ve done that. None of us feel like we have. So I think we’re still in pursuit of trying to attain that.”
