Inspired by a Chinese Proverb, and sent to your brain from a beach at the end of the world, Pacific Daydream is coming your way in October.
Weezer are to release their 11th studio album, Pacific Daydream, via Crush Music/Atlantic later this year.
This welcome news comes to you courtesy of the letter B – for Butch Walker, who produced the record; the number 27 – as in October 27, which is the record’s release date; and the letter M – representing Mexican Fender, the band's new single.
Speaking of which, drink it in, friends. Drink it all the way in.
Also appearing on Pacific Daydream will be Feels Like Summer, which came out back in March – a full tracklist for the album is yet to be announced.
Of the new record’s themes, the four-piece – frontman Rivers Cuomo, drummer Patrick Wilson, bassist Scott Shriner and guitarist Brian Bell – have compared the songs on the record to “reveries from a beach at the end of the world”.
Cuomo has cited a Chinese proverb as inspirational for the album’s design, too. It’s from the 4th century BC philosopher Zhuang Zho, and reads as follows:
“Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”
