“See you all soon”: Marmozets have signed a new record deal
Just under a year on from teasing their return, it looks like Marmozets’ comeback is finally on the horizon!
They’re back!
Marmozets have just been added to the Reading & Leeds 2017 line-up, so we spoke to guitarist Jack Bottomley about the festival, the band’s live return and new music…
The last time you played Reading & Leeds you were on the main stage – did that feel like a momentous occasion in your career?
“I think it’s a major landmark for any band – it certainly was for us; I also think maybe even more so for a British band. You’ll hear band members mention that they went to either Leeds or Reading before as a fan, years before getting the opportunity to perform at it. That was the same for us. You don’t get that at many other festivals.”
How important is Reading & Leeds Festival to you?
“Every gig is important to us. But, on a personal level Leeds Festival was the first festival I went to in 2008 and we’ve been lucky enough to play on the Introducing stage in 2012. Then, in 2014 we played both the Lock-Up and the NME/Radio 1 tent – we played two shows at Reading and two shows at Leeds – and finally we played the main stage in 2015. It’s brilliant to look back and see the band go up the metaphorical festival ladder.”
Will this mark the live return of Marmozets in the UK?
“Who knows? There’s a possibility that it could potentially be our live return in the UK. Or maybe not… we might do gigs before. Maybe. But maybe not. Who even knows? I don’t. Do you? I’m not sure. It may be our UK festival return.”
Can we expect you to drop some new tunes in your performance?
“As soon as we’re back touring there will be a fair few new songs in the set I’d have thought! Can’t wait to see how they go down.”
Finally, who are you looking forward to seeing on the line-up this year?
“It’s a really strong line-up this year. I’ll definitely go and watch Muse, and I’ll definitely go and see my friends in Circa Waves and Architects. Fat Boy Slim and At the Drive-In are up there, too!”
