Independent alt. artist Ryan Oakes has just released his long-awaited debut album, WAKE UP.
Having already shared a huge amount of genre-blending material across his decade-long career, today Ryan shares his first complete LP – which features cameos from the likes of fellow bright scene sparks like Loveless and Magnolia Park – via Position Music.
“On this album, I tried to give a piece of everything I do,” he explains. “I get into mental health, flex moments, rock, and pure OG rap songs. I brought all of these flavours together. It’s all cohesive to me.”
Of fusing it all together, Ryan reveals, “I put my own personality into the music as much as I can. There are some witty lines and a lot of personal truths. We’re trying to blend the genres so well to a point where you can’t label what we’re doing. It’s super detailed down to the smallest piece. That’s the Ryan Oakes secret sauce. It’s something no-one else can replicate.”
Listen to WAKE UP below, and catch Ryan Oakes live in the States at various shows and festivals over the coming months.
