Hellyeah performed for the first time since Vinnie Paul's tragic passing, at a celebration of his life in Las Vegas.

Hellyeah Play Their First Show Since Vinnie Paul's Death

In June of last year, the metal world lost a legend when Pantera/Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott passed away at the age of 54. In honor of Vinnie's life and legacy, the remaining members of Hellyeah put on a tribute concert, where they unveiled their new drummer, Stone Sour's Roy Mayogra. The show took place last night, and now fan-shot footage has surfaced online that shows the band playing Hellyeah and Pantera tracks in memory of Vinnie.

The celebration of all things Vinnie Paul was at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Vinnie lived for several years before his death. Among the tracks played were classic Hellyeah singles Love Falls and War In Me, as well as Pantera hits Walk and I'm Broken.

If that weren't enough, Clark County, Nevada, declared May 11th to officially be Vinnie Paul Day -- so if you want to celebrate Vinnie's life and music, that's the day to head to Vegas in 2020.

Check out footage of the announcement via Pantera's Instagram:

Vinnie Paul's death caused a stir earlier this year when it was omitted from the 2019 Grammy Awards' In Memoriam reel. Several metal musicians responded to the slight, including Alice In Chains bassist Mike Inez, who wrote on his Instagram, “Even though we lost, I had a great Grammy weekend full of events and cool people. But my only bitch about it was how in the FUCK do you leave out 4 time nominee Vinnie Paul out of the In Memorium. They did the same shit with Layne. Hard fumble.”

Matt Heafy of Trivium also tweeted, “I am a GRAMMY nominee. But I would not be a Grammy nominee or in a band or into Metal without Vinnie Paul Abbott…Dear @RecordingAcad - the Metal category is hardly recognized at your awards, and you left out an In Memoriam artist who is responsible for shaping Metal and rock.”
