Hayley Williams: “It wasn’t time to make another Paramore record, but I had a lot of sh*t to say”
In a new interview, Hayley Williams has explained the “cycle” of Paramore and why the band often need to take breaks.
Hayley Williams – along with an incredible orchestra – performed True Believer on the latest episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Hayley Williams was the musical guest on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and you can see the incredible performance online now.
Continuing to celebrate and promote her recent third solo album Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party, the Paramore singer notably opted to perform the dark, haunting and incredibly powerful True Believer for her TV slot.
Joined by a stunning orchestra and featuring a snippet of Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit, fans were particularly impressed by the choice of song and its message, which is about ‘the gentrification of Nashville, the hypocrisy of evangelical Christians, and the South’s troubled legacy’ according to Genius.
“I’m so pleased Hayley used this stage as a platform for this song. I hope everyone was listening,” read one YouTube comment, while another said, “Hayley Williams performing True Believer with a black orchestra on national TV tonight? Walking the talk!”
“She could’ve played any of the other ‘pop’-ier sounding song of EDAABP but Miss Williams came out and showed out with purpose,” posted another user.

In our 5/5 review of Ego Death…, Kerrang! said: “Marking her first release outside of Atlantic Records, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party is the most vast summation of Hayley’s story so far. A musical purge of trauma patterns, depression, love, loss, and of course, ego, the wit and honesty of Hayley’s lyricism is the shining star of this work. It’s an unboundless exploration of a life lived under the scrutiny of misogyny and in the public eye from one of our time’s most creative and fearless artists.”
