Exclusive Premiere: Hate Eternal Shake Things Up on New Track, All Hope Destroyed

Death metal trends come and go, but Hate Eternal remain. The St. Petersburg, Florida, trio led by the inimitable Erik Rutan (former Morbid Angel guitarist and death metal producer extraordinaire with clients including Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, and Devourment), have stood the test of time, inspiring fans and shaming poseurs with their unrelenting mix of technical wizardry and sheer sonic ruthlessness.

But what has always set Hate Eternal apart from the death metal horde at large is their ability to work unusual influences and interesting new styles into their music. To experiment with new ideas while maintaining total sonic barbarity is every death metal band’s dream; Hate Eternal seem to do it without even trying.

A perfect example of this is All Hope Destroyed, the latest track from Hate Eternal’s upcoming seventh studio album Upon Desolate Sands. From the get-go, All Hope Destroyed is a furious racket--but rather than plug away at a single theme, the track quickly pivots, introducing jaunty bass-heavy rhythms and weirdo guitar parts that channel Gorguts and latter-day Death. Tech-death traditionalists shouldn’t worry, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into here, it’s just more dynamic that your usual crushing deluge of blast beats.

"All Hope Destroyed is an anomaly on the new record," explains Erik Rutan. "Controlled chaos, yet unbridled insanity, with a dramatic melodic ending. As the song builds into a frenzy it ends with a epic finale. It encapsulates so much of who Hate Eternal are musically but also explores a bit of new territory never fully realized before. This song is a unique entity on the new Hate Eternal album and one I believe truly shines on Upon Desolate Sands."
