Decolonise Fest have announced their first non-London event

London’s brilliant Decolonise Fest will be going ‘on tour’ for the first time ever, hitting Scotland next month.

The DIY fest – which is held annually in celebration of punx of colour – will head to Glasgow’s MONO on November 11 for the first in a series of festivals happening across the next 18 months.

In travelling around the UK, its aim is to ‘showcase underrepresented regional POC artists and engage/connect with POC fans of punk and alternative music in the communities where they live’.

This first instalment will be headlined by protest musician Kapil Seshasayee, and will also feature local musician R.AGGS (Ray Aggs) and Edinburgh’s Trishaaa on the bill.

Fresh from appearing at our RSA panel on Monday evening discussing Black voices in alternative music, Alex Ekong says that, “Decolonise Fest is a space that allows us to advocate for emerging artists of colour, foster a community of like-minded people, connect punx of colour to global struggles against the legacy of colonialism, and indulge in our love of punk together.

“We celebrate the many punx of colour creating right now, acknowledge the legacy of our elders and the doors they opened for us, and make room for more DIY punx of colour to take centre stage and make some noise. You can read our manifesto here.”
