System Of A Down guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Daron Malakian doesn’t seem to be interested a making a new album with the band.

Members of the quartet have shared their thoughts and even reluctance about properly following up 2005’s Mezmerize and Hypnotize over the years – and in a new interview with Rick Rubin, Daron seems to have decided that, these days, he’s not particularly into it.

Speaking to the legendary SOAD producer about that aforementioned 20-year-old double album and what might have been, Daron tells Rick that “it would have been nice to see where the band would have evolved if we kept putting music out. If we put out an album now, it’s just so far away from [Mezmerize and Hypnotize] it doesn’t continue the story to me.” (Transcribed via ThePRP)

Daron adds that starting up a “new story” with System “might have been something I wanted” in the past, but now, “I’m not sure how much I want that anymore – I’m sure people won’t be too happy to hear that from me. I’m not at the same place I was maybe 10 years ago.”

However, the musician does tease a new Scars On Broadway album this year, not to mention SOAD have some absolutely huge South and North American stadium shows.
