Casey’s Tom Weaver needs open-heart surgery; band cancel all live shows from July onwards

Casey have cancelled all upcoming live dates from July 1 until further notice, with frontman Tom Weaver needing to undergo open-heart surgery.

In an extremely honest video posted to the band’s YouTube, the singer explains that he’d battled with a bout of viral sepsis while out in America in January, and it had a “significant impact” on his kidneys and heart – and while his kidneys have thankfully recovered, his heart now has a prolapsed valve, and he’s a priority patient awaiting treatment.

A description underneath this video update from Tom reads: “I’ve got some bad news; Casey has to cancel all of our appearances from July 1 onwards, until further notice. This is obviously devastating for us as a band, and is a decision that’s been incredibly difficult to make, but is one that ultimately we feel is appropriate at the moment.

“Please watch the video for more detail on why we’ve had to make this difficult decision at this time. As of next year, we should hopefully be back up and running. New music, more shows, and getting back out to see as many of you as we possibly can.”

Tom has added that Holding Absence have kept Casey’s spot for their August show at Chepstow Castle in case he’s able to attend that (“That’s around the time when my surgery is expected to land, so we may not be able to appear if it clashes with our appearance,” he explains. “But, providing I’m fit, we’ll be seeing everyone there too”).
