Michigan’s preeminent metalcore quintet We Came As Romans are back, and have shed skin in the process. Having released the emotive and potent Darkbloom in 2022, acting in no small part as tribute to late vocalist Kyle Pavone, they've returned in a new form to wreck your speakers and vocal cords. All Is Beautiful… Because We’re Doomed stands as a monolithic metalcore moment, bursting at the seams with earworms aplenty as well as more riffs than you can shake a stick at.

Lead single and opening track proper bad luck throws around monumental guitar parts like they weigh nothing, and is not alone in that either – one by one and culture wound bring about almost involuntary gurning and headbanging, even when their choruses are about as close to ready made for an arena as it can get.

Coming with the same stylistic fluidity as the biggest and baddest of their peers, it’s no accident that hints of Bad Omens and Bring Me The Horizon are written into the album's DNA. Using slightly less obliquely hardcore flourishes behind the kit, the band can channel everything into making a record that hits like a landslide and yet will also grab the attention of those who are just dipping their toes into heavy music, through sheer sing-along-ability.

That variation is perhaps best demonstrated on where did you go?, a mid-album banger feels like it could’ve been right at home on Bad Omens’ The Death Of Peace Of Mind, acting as the breathing room before no rest for the dreamer rocks up.

A band that have been through the wringer and come back swinging, WCAR have not only risen above the shots life has sent their way, they’ve brought their A-game and released a barnstorming new record that’s filled with life and power.

Verdict: 4/5
