Reborn and refined, Nevertel’s latest offering Start Again does exactly what it says on the tin. They’re resetting things and redefining who they are to enter the big leagues and prove they’re one of the most exciting bands in metalcore. They have carved out a record that fuses nu-metal, rap-rock and alt.rock with a precision that feels personal and punishing.

As the opening interlude leads into the burly heights of Criminal, the band make their intent clear. It’s a furious, high-octane introduction led by Chester Bennington-inspired screams and a towering chorus that lingers long after the final note. This is quickly followed by Did It All which leans into Nevertel’s rap sensibilities, with tight verses and rhythmic vocal interplay that shows just how well Jeremy Michael and Raul Lopez understand each other’s dynamic. It’s aggressive without losing its sense of structure, a trait that defines the entire record.

Break The Silence is a standout moment, featuring fellow rising stars Sleep Theory. Built around themes of confrontation and catharsis, it’s an explosive collaboration that amplifies the emotional weight behind the band’s lyrical core. The middle of the record sees a shift in tone, with Miles Apart and Some Things embracing more introspective, hip-hop-leaning production. The pace drops, but the impact doesn’t, offering a different kind of heaviness.

Closing duo Starting Over and Ever After push things back into the fast lane, with crunching guitars and expansive sounds returning to the firing line. Both are tailor-made for rock club rotation, employing soaring hooks, polished chaos and a sense of purpose that feels earned.

Nevertel have taken their time with Start Again, and it shows. This is them entering their main character energy phase, with an album forged through creative risk, personal growth and absolute commitment. It’s not just a step forward, it’s a leap.

Verdict: 4/5
